Terms of service

The service

Actual Robot is a workspace for a home robotics lab: you record your equipment and experiments, find ideas that fit your kit, and follow a ten-lesson course. Anyone can read the course overview and lesson 1; lessons 2 to 10, their exercises and saved progress need a free account, which also saves your lab. When available, an AI helper built on OpenAI can answer questions and suggest changes to your lab, within the limits of your plan. Actual Robot is an early preview, so features may change.

Your account

• You must be at least 13 to create an account. If you are under the age of majority where you live, a parent or guardian must agree to these terms for you.
• Give accurate details, keep your password to yourself, and tell us at privacy@arloa.ai if you think someone else has used your account. You are responsible for what happens in your account.
• An account is for one person.

Acceptable use

Do not:

• break the law, or use Actual Robot to harm anyone;
• try to reach other people's data, or test, probe or overload our systems, including by getting around rate limits or plan limits;
• use the AI helper to plan weapons or anything meant to hurt people, or try to get around its safety systems. Repeated safety blocks pause the helper for your account for a day;
• scrape the site, or resell or redistribute the service.

Your content and ours

Your lab records, notes and messages are yours. You let us store, process and show them only to run Actual Robot for you, including sending them to the providers listed in the privacy policy. You can export your lab record at any time from Lab setup.

The lessons, the site and its code belong to us or to those who licensed them to us. You may use the lessons for your own learning.

The AI helper is advice, not instructions

The helper can be wrong, incomplete or out of date. Its answers and suggestions are advice only: nothing is saved to your lab until you review and apply it, and you decide whether to act on it. Check what it says against your equipment's manuals and datasheets. Actual Robot does not connect to or control your hardware.

The helper may be unavailable at times, for example when your plan's monthly limit is reached or when we pause it for everyone because our own monthly spending limit has been reached.

Safety

Robotics involves electricity, batteries, motors, moving parts, heat and tools, and can cause injury, fire or damage. You are responsible for working safely:

• follow your equipment's instructions and safety warnings, and use suitable protective equipment;
• keep an emergency stop within reach when anything can move, and never leave a powered robot or a charging battery unattended;
• stop and ask a qualified person when you are unsure.

The lessons follow one example kit, and your equipment may differ. You use the lessons, ideas and helper at your own risk.

Plans and billing

• Actual Robot has a Free plan and a paid Pro plan. Current prices and limits are on the pricing page. Prices are in US dollars, and Pro, once on sale, is offered in the United States.
• Payments are handled by Stripe. When you subscribe to Pro, you authorize a charge each month or each year, as you chose, until you cancel.
• You can cancel at any time from Billing, which opens Stripe's billing portal. Cancellation is expected to take effect at the end of the period you have already paid for, so Pro may continue until then.
• If a renewal payment fails, Pro may continue while Stripe retries the payment. If every retry fails, your account is expected to return to Free.
• Refunds: Pro isn't on sale yet. When it is, you can cancel anytime from your billing page; your plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for, and we don't give partial refunds except where the law requires. If you are charged for a second Pro subscription by mistake, we refund that duplicate in full to your card.
• If Pro's price changes, we will tell you before the new price applies to your subscription.

Features that are not available

Features marked "coming soon" are not available yet. Ordering parts through Actual Robot is switched off; if we switch it on, the order terms will be shown before you place an order.

Availability and changes

We work to keep Actual Robot running, but we do not promise it will always be available or free of errors. We may change, pause or stop features. Keep your own copy of anything important: you can export your lab record at any time.

Ending your use

You can stop using Actual Robot at any time. To delete your account, email privacy@arloa.ai. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts others at risk. Where we can, we will tell you first and give you a chance to export your data.

No warranty

Actual Robot, its lessons and the AI helper are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for injury, loss or damage that comes from building, wiring or operating hardware. Our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules; disputes will be heard in the state or federal courts located in Delaware.

Changes to these terms

When these terms change we update this page and its date. We will tell you about important changes in the app before they take effect. If you keep using Actual Robot after that, the new terms apply.
